Training at the Yellow Wing

The Yellow Wing is a training practice

Dr Fleming and Dr Tennick are both qualified trainers. You are likely to meet our young GPs as they pass through and we hope you will enjoy helping them as they help you. They are all fully qualified doctors who need to develop their experience within General Practice. We have also been involved with training medical students over the years.

GPs used to train by old fashioned apprenticeship. We still do, but it is now a lengthy and prescriptive process. After completing foundation training, GP trainees start specialist training and rotate through hospital and GP placements, typically over 3 years, to gain sufficient experience and expertise to become independent GPs. Trainees are supervised throughout and must complete a detailed log of their experiences and skills. They must be observed directly, submit video evidence and complete rigorous practical and written exams to succeed. You also have a say – they have to undertake a patient satisfaction questionnaire.

Current Trainees

We welcomed Dr Sadia Rahim to The Yellow Wing in November 2020. Her rotation is unusual in offering all the primary care experience in a single 18 month stretch. She has already completed all her hospital training and will be with us until May 2022.

Dr Clare Toner joined us in August 2020 as for her first ST1 post. She moved on to hospital training in February 2021 and she will return for her 3rd and final year thereafter.

Previous Trainees:

Dr Harriet Rushworth was our first trainee from February to August 2015. She returned to us after her interim hospital posts from August 2016 to 2017 and is now a fully accredited GP.

Dr Emily Pringle was with us February to August 2016 and again for the year to August 2018 and is now a fully accredited GP.

Dr Nicola Lapraik was with us as an ST3 from August 2018 to October 2019 and is now a fully accredited GP.

Dr Jennifer Bowie was with the practice August to February 2016. She returned to us in February 2019 and has now completed training and become a fully accredited GP.

Dr Ching Toh became part of the team in February 2018 and left to continue her hospital training in July of that year.  She was back in August 2019 for ST3 and is now a fully accredited GP.
